I first met Richard Tobin, Westbound Departure‘s singer and guitarist, in 2007 through an internet form. I was writing and doing artwork for a site called The Daily Chorus, and he was writing in to inquire about some help coding a myspace page. Little did I know that a few months later, I’d  be sitting in his garage printing t-shirts with him.

Skip to present day: three years have now passed and I’ve spent that time getting to know Richard, Eric, Seth and Octavio and have watched them grown immensely. I’ve printed shirts in their garage, recorded songs in their studio and later watched as producer Rory Allen Phillips give them hell, while pushing them to become a better recording band. After this recording session, the band really pushed them selves to write greater music and perform tighter than ever. The drums got tighter and more technical, the bass got groovier, the guitars got intertwined better and the vocals got smoother.

Late last year, WBD released a full length record, Miles of Country. The record was almost exclusively self produced (everything was tracked in their home studio, in ATX – except for drums which were done by Rory Allen Phillips and Barret Walton at Infinity Recording studio in ATX). The tracks were then sent off to the capable beings at Hollywood Records for mixing and mastering. Keeping in the spirit of self producing the record, the guys than hand assembled, and numbered, 600 die cut cd jackets for the records first pressing.

WBD is now in the process of recording their first of several free EPs, The American Night, and plans to have it out to the public by the end of April.
